The Boylston Schul-Verein (BSV) was founded in 1874 in Jamaica Plain to provide German-language classes for the children of its members and the neighborhoor. Today, it supports a large childrens' Saturday Morning School at Boston University and adults' classes are held on Thursday evenings at the BSV clubhouse. The BSV is also a social club. Now located in Walpole, the members hold monthly dinner dances at the chalet-style clubhouse, host annual outdoor functions on the club's 9.9 acres of picturesque woods and fields, and celebrate a Cabaret Night monthly in the pleasant clubhouse Ratskeller. The BSV comprises of a mixed-voice Chorus, Hunters' Club, Skat Club,
and Herren Abend. The BSV motto is "Unity, Friendship, Sociability".
